How to check a MEPCO bill
- Find the 14-digit reference number at the top of an old MEPCO bill, or the 10-digit consumer ID printed near your name and address.
- Note the U (Urban) or R (Rural) mark printed with the reference number.
- On BillCheckNow, choose MEPCO, enter the number, and press Fetch Bill.
- Your bill opens on the official PITC portal. Check the bill month first — make sure it is the current month, not an older one.
- Print it, or save it as a PDF, using your browser's print option.
You can also check a MEPCO bill directly on the official PITC MEPCO page and enter the same number there. BillCheckNow simply takes you to that official page with fewer steps in between.
Understanding your MEPCO bill — in plain words
- Units consumed (kWh): how much electricity your meter recorded in the billing period; the starting point for almost every other charge.
- Slab rate: electricity is priced in slabs, or bands. As usage rises into a higher band, the rate per unit rises too — and crossing into a higher band can raise the rate on the whole month's usage, not just the extra units. That is why a small increase in units can sometimes cause a larger jump in the total.
- Energy charge: your units multiplied by the applicable slab rate; the main cost of the electricity itself.
- Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA): a per-unit adjustment set by the regulator that reflects changes in fuel costs; it explains why the same number of units can cost a different amount in different months.
- Government charges and taxes: these include General Sales Tax (GST) on the energy and fuel charges, plus other government levies that apply to electricity bills.
- TV fee, meter rent, and electricity duty: smaller fixed or standard charges that appear on most bills — a television licence fee, a charge for the meter, and a duty on electricity supply.
- Arrears: any unpaid amount carried forward from earlier bills.
- Total payable within the due date: the amount to pay by the printed due date to avoid a late charge.
- Late payment surcharge: an extra amount added if payment is made after the due date.
- Payable after the due date: the total including the late surcharge, for payment after the deadline.
If the units, the slab, or the name and address on the bill look wrong, do not just pay and move on — note the bill month and reading, and raise it with MEPCO through the helplines below.
MEPCO helpline and complaints
- Helpline: call 118 for power breakdowns and billing complaints. Keep your reference number ready.
- SMS: send an SMS to 8118 for complaints, where that service is offered.
- Online complaint: register at ccms.pitc.com.pk and note the complaint number for follow-up.
- Escalation: if a billing dispute is not resolved through the normal complaint route, it can be escalated in writing through the complaint system and then to the regulator, NEPRA.
MEPCO bill FAQs (short)
Can I check a MEPCO bill by consumer ID instead of reference number?
Yes. If you do not have the 14-digit reference number, the 10-digit consumer ID from the same bill can be used on the official PITC form instead.
What if the wrong U or R is selected?
Try the other letter. A bill that does not open under U will often open under R, and vice versa, if that is the only mistake.
Is a printed duplicate bill valid for payment?
Yes. A printout or PDF saved from the official PITC bill page carries the same reference data as the original and is accepted at banks, ATMs, and mobile wallets that take MEPCO payments by reference number.
Does BillCheckNow store my MEPCO number?
No. The number you type is used only to open the official bill page in your browser. It is not saved on BillCheckNow.
